Groundhog Day FAQ

1. Who made the film?

Bill Murray and Andie MacDowell co-starred in this Harold Ramis film, produced by Trevor Albert. Danny Rubin wrote the story. 101 minutes.

2. Is the soundtrack available?

Yes, on Epic Soundtrax. Harold Ramis apparently wrote the lyrics to "Weatherman."

3. How much did Bill Murray get paid to make Groundhog Day?

Apparently about $10 million.

4. Where was it shot?

Woodstock, Illinois, about an hour from Chicago. The one slip that I or anyone I know has noticed is the street corner where the bum hangs out in the morning, just as Bill's leaving the bed and breakfast; in the background is a shop called "Woodstock Jewelers" or something.

5. What's the significance of the church Phil jumps off of?

It's an opera house in Woodstock, Illinois, and it has legends about being haunted. Apparently some girl once killed herself by jumping from that very same bell tower.

6. Did Bill Murray get along well with his rodent co-star?

It bit him twice, so unless he enjoyed it, no, probably not.

7. How was Bill Murray treated in Woodstock?

Well, after the locals saw what a great job he was doing with the film, he became rather popular. Jeffrey Puma relates the following tale: "A guy I went to high school with claimed that one night he was filling up his gas tank when Murray came out of Porter's (a bar and seafood restaurant in C.L.) and was mobbed by people wanting his autograph. As the story goes, he didn't want to wait around for the vallet to pull up his car, so he ran across the street and jumped into this guy's VW beatle and asked for a ride home." Jeffrey recommends taking this story with a grain of salt. I think it's true, whether in real life or just in our hearts and souls it does not matter.

8. My second cousin's friend told her about a friend of his that knows someone who heard a story about someone that didn't like Groundhog Day very much. Could this really be possible?

I'm afraid so. There are two types of people in this world: those that love Groundhog Day, and those that can't appreciate it. Our job is to exterminate the latter group.
